Cri du Chat Awareness Week
We're posting this for someone we know whose daughter suffers from a rare genetic syndrome called Cri du Chat. There is a chronic problem with this syndrome being misdiagnosed, or when diagnosed, doctors giving families outdated information that suggests a child should be put in an institution. This is Cri du Chat Awareness Week and you can learn more this syndrome here:

You can email these links to your pediatrician or OB-GYN to help them learn more about this rare syndrome.

HOLIDAYS, FAMILY & FOOD--Your Recipe is an All-Star!
You know how the holidays roll around and suddenly you're planning big holiday meals? Well, we always get stuck choosing side dishes to go with those splendid turkeys, hams and other holiday main courses.
So we're going to put together a side dish cookbook--and all the recipes will come from YOU. Just send us your favorite side dish recipe (the more regional the better). And tell us a little bit about it--is it an old family recipe? A compromise for picky eaters? Something you invented or modified for different diets, like vegetarian, gluten-free or low-calorie? Something everyone loves? Or even, old reliable? It doesn't have to be fancy--just your holiday side dish favorites!
Let's share what makes our holiday meals special for our families and get some new ideas for next year!
Send recipes (and photos, if you have them) to editor@momtalk.com
Fine print:
1.If your recipe is used, you'll be credited. Example: Thanksgiving Slaw, submitted by Jane Doe, Wichita, Kansas. Unless you don't want to be:)
2. If your recipe is straight out of an existing cookbook, please include all credits and a link, if possible.
3. We'll also want photographs to entice others to make your delicious dish. If you're feeling inspired, please send us a photo. You may send a high resolution photo with a file size no larger than 2 mgs.

The Toddler Years Revisited – Only Now She Has Her Driver’s License
“Letting go doesn't mean we don't care. Letting go doesn't mean we shut down.Letting go means we stop trying to force outcomes and make people behave. It means we give up resistance to the way things are, for the moment. It means we stop trying to do the impossible--controlling that which we cannot--and instead, focus on what is possible--which usually means taking care of ourselves. And we do this in gentleness,…

For six months, if my newborn son was not sleeping (and he did not do this very often), he was crying. And it was not like a wimpering kind of a cry, but a full blown, finger nails on the chalk board, hysterical, shrieking, “I am in pain, please help me NOW!!!” kind of cry. He is 15 now and I can’t even remember the last time I saw him cry. I actually wish he would cry sometimes. But I do not forget those months and months of sleepless nights and days I shared with my first son. Or how my…

Of course you want to be happy for your teenage daughter when you see the sparkle in her eye. The sparkle that shows that she has felt the stirrings of love, or whatever you call the feelings of a teenage romance. You remember those times not that long ago that you held her as she cried, and told her that she IS pretty and smart and funny, and that a boy WILL want her to be his girlfriend, and he will want to be her boyfriend. And you told her that she shouldn't base how she feels about…
